Today my sweet Emily is 1 week old! She has been doing great. I am so blessed to have 2 wonderful kids. Bradley is adjusting well to having his sister in his life. He is very much aware of her and willing to love her and sit by her every chance he gets. Emily has been eating and sleeping. She is such a good baby and usually only wakes up once during the night from 10 pm - 7 am. I am so very grateful to have some sleep. Jon was able to be home (no school or work) the whole first week of Emily's life. However, today marked the beginning of his law school summer internship, and therefore, the beginning of my life as a mother of 2 kids... for real. The first day went pretty well. I really stuck with a schedule with Brad to keep myself sane. Emily has her own schedule, but it worked well around Brad's for today.
Here is what we did today...
- 7-8:30 was morning play time and breakfast
- 8:30-9 cartoons on PBS - in Iowa during this time is Dinosaur Train... Brad's favorite.
- 9-10 playing downstairs
- 10 snack time
- 10:30-11:30 planned activity - today we made pasta pictures where we glued pasta on construction paper. Brad thought it was awesome.
- 11:30-12 lunch time
- 12-1 learning time - we went through some flash cards and named the picture. surpisingly this actually kept his attention for longer than I expected... which was great.
- 1-4 nap time - usually I only let him sleep for 2 hours, but I figured, if he is going to sleep, I am going to let him
- 4-5 small craft idea - mine today was to thread cheerios on to colored pipe cleaner. he enjoyed it for a while, but small things for this age is hard to stay focused on... but he did enjoy the cheerios.
- 5-5:20 run around outside while waiting for DAD to come home.
- 5:20 Horray! Dad is home.
Well, you may be thinking... wow, that girl is nuts. She is really going crazy and needs some major help. However, I would say... I felt a little more sane and at peace knowing that when certain time frames began then I would have something for Brad to do or and idea of where to guide him to play. Normally we would go outside for most of the day, but, some of our neighbors children have been sick, and that is the last thing I want right now.
Okay, so if you have read this entire post, I am sorry since there is nothing too significant to note except for me to mark the 1 week old date of my daughter Emily. Way to go Em! I love you!

Congrats on your baby! and congrats on staying sane! by the time my newborn (who is now 9 weeks old) was one week I sat on the couch all day, crying, and staring at the wall while my mom made everymeal and took care of my two kids. I would have to say, you are super mom!! Congrats on the little one, she really is adorable!!
